Dutchman’s breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) is a delicate spring wildflower native to North America. It features finely divided, fern-like foliage and distinctive white, pantaloon-shaped flowers that dangle from arching stems, resembling old-fashioned trousers hung on a clothesline. Blooming in early spring, it thrives in rich, moist woodland soils and is an important nectar source for early pollinators. This ephemeral plant goes dormant after flowering, retreating underground until the next season.
